Thanksgiving Dinner

Now I sit me down to eat
Collards cooked with seasoned meat,
Mashed potatoes, thick and wavy
Topped with thick brown onion gravy.

Nothing gets me hungry quicker
Than butter beans in rich pot likker,
Some turkey and a piece of ham
With one large hunk of sweetened yam.

My scrumptious plate has just one fault:
I forgot to leave some room for salt.
On days like this I'm truly thankful
For every single country mouthful.
